Potty Training Puppies - Learn The Basic Techniques
How to potty train a puppy is critical first step in bonding with a newest addition to your family. Of course, puppy litter training may not be the dream job that you thought about growing up, BUT it requires empathy, patience, and understanding. In return, your new puppy dog learns acceptablebehaviors that are necessary so he will be welcome and happy his new surroundings.
Remember that the attention span of your puppy lasts only a short time. Just as children don’t learn without repetition, a puppy won’t normally learn correct behavior right away either. Another important factor, be consistent with your dog when training him. Perhaps the most important concept while puppy litter training is keeping in mind that your new pet is not consciously behaving poorly. Just as teaching a small child is time consuming, your puppy still too young to have recognized which actions are okay!
Despite some of the old systems of house training for puppies, a trainer or owner should never physically punish a puppy by hitting, rubbing his nose in his accidents, or screaming at your puppy. These mistakes teach your pet that relieving himself are bad. On top of that fear, canines often respond negatively to overtly aggressive actions. What is the fallout from these alienating activities? Many puppies actually regress as their training advances.
Start the litter training process with a simple feeding schedule for your puppy. Give 3 meals a day just as you do. A regular eating system helps|assists|creates[/spin] the animal become regular with his bowel movements. After consuming food, wait 20-30 minutes, and then take him outside. Watch how long before he goes potty. This will give you an idea of how long to wait the next time you take him out. (Within about a week, you should have his schedule down.) It is important to maintain a regular eating schedule. Never food in his bowl because it will cause accidents and make house training slower and more difficult.
When litter training your puppy take him outside immediately after an accident. Don’t forget to praise his good behavior! Every time he “goes potty” where he’s supposed to, praise him lavishly. Positive reinforcement is a powerful training tool. Soon the pup will understand exactly what brings emotional satisfaction from his owner and what brings distress. Critically, don’t forget that full control of the bladder and bowels won’t happen until 16 weeks of age. It is not possible to expect too much from your puppy too soon.
However, when an accident happens (and they will!), clean the area and spray quickly. This will cover up the odor so your puppy will not try to mark his territory again.
Remember housebreaking a puppy is a big responsibility that can lead to a special bond between you and your puppy. Encouraging words and lots of love will make all the time worthwhile!
